Lost, abandoned, in need of a home... As we are forming our society and working endlessly to raise the funds to build this desparately needed shelter within the Northland, more and more animals keep coming our way. As we find and try to foster these poor unwanted, mistreated, and even abused pets we will also try to keep them posted for friends and families to help spread the word and find forever homes for these animals in need. ***DISCLAIMER***Owners are responsible for screening all applicants before adoption. Posting animals in need of homes is a community service offered by NAWS. Doggone good dog (Smart, too!) 11/11/2008 My daughter Amanda rescued Cali from a dumpster when she was a puppy and is now approx. 7 months old, she is a sweet dog but Amanda is moving at the end of the year to an apartment that does not allow pets. She has had her first round of shots. Puppy Needs a Forever Home 11/11/2008 Five month old, male lab mix. Housebroken, current shots, kennel trained, good with kids, goes by the name "Cooper." "Rescued Kittens" 11/11/2008 Two 6-month old cats, brother & sister were dumped at Truman Medical Center. Trena W. found them, they had a bad case of ringworm, but she rescued them. Took them to the Vet and started an aggressive antibiotic program, got them vaccinated and has fostered them since August. They live in a spare bedroom, but are very social, lovable and cuddly. One is black and the other is calico. They are being spay/neutered today and she needs to find a home ASAP. She has two large dogs and two other cats. One of her cats is a grump and mean so she cannot let the little ones out of the bedroom. Trena is a single mom who spends a lot of money that she doesn’t have to help rescue animals. Please help us keep this brother & sister together!! Call- 816.807.7041

Lab Puppies & Momma Need Home 02/29/2008

Someone dumped a mother black Lab and her 6 pups. They had left a small pile of dog food in the middle of the parking lot for them. The mother is very well behaved and gentle, seems to know "sit" and "come" etc. The pups look well fed and healthy. They are all weaned already. "Ricky" 02/29/2008
 Hi everyone,
We have very sadly decided that our dog Ricky needs to find a new home. We'd like to find a home for him rather than take him back to the shelter, so I'm trying to spread the word to as many people as I can. Here's the scoop on him...
He's 13 months old, a Sheltie/Terrier mix, about 40 lbs. He is absolutely adorable and very affectionate and smart. But he is very high strung and needs more attention and exercise than we are able to provide. He needs a home where he can learn to channel his energy more appropriately....
...We really want to rest in the fact that he is going to a good home that is better suited to him.
Thanks everyone! Terri B.

Absolutely adorable - long hair, 2 male and 1 female, one light and two darker with some stripes and the biggest blue eyes you ever saw! Took to the vet and they are 2 months old and ready for a new mommy and daddy... :) Robin Contact Us
"Kitty" 06/15/2007 I found a sweet, lost, declawed, female? roaming in my backyard. We've been feeding her since Friday. She may be a neighbor's cat, no one knows her so far. I hate to think she may be a drop off.
Contact Us "Broken Leg Puppy" 06/19/2007
I have a good looking 12 week old female lab mix. She is a nice social puppy and has a broken leg. It is broken in the "angle" and we are unsure what it would take to repair the leg or whether it would need to be amputated. Do you know anyone that might be able to help?

Contact Us "36 lb CUTIE" 06/15/2007
I'm looking for a foster for this stray female dog that has been wandering in my neighborhood. She is 36 lbs. mild mannered, friendly and wags her tail. She does not bark, growl, etc. She gets along with my dog, isn't bothered or chase cats. I've attached some pictures of her. If you have room for her, please let me know. Thank you. Kimberly

Hello!! I hope everyone is doing well and looking forward to summer! I am sending you a request and if you feel comfortable forwarding on I would appreciate it! We have a puppy named Maggie! She is half lab/ half shephard. We rescued her form a shelter in December when she was only 6 weeks old. OUr family dog, Dutch, passed away and we thought a new puppy would be a good idea. With 3 kids it is not working out well! She is a great dog and very smart but she needs a home where she can get more attenion! Maggie has been spayed and her shots are all up to date, she is on a puppy plan with our veterinarian so her visits have been paid for for a full year. She also has been potty trained and she has a large kennel for sleeping! Maggie LOVES to be outside and she doesn't bark very much! She is a puppy so she has lots fo energy. She loves to go on walks and play ball! I forogt to add that we have paid for an obedience training class for her. She is in her second week. If anyone is interested in Maggie please give us a call! Thaks for forwarding this on! We want to find her a good home where she will be happier!!!

"Honey" 05/03/2007
I found this stray cat, she has been spayed and vaccinated. She would like to have a permanent home indoors. She is currently in my garage and socializes with my other cats under my supervision, she is doing pretty well with them. I would definitely keep her if I could. She is a really sweet cat and probably should not be placed with someone that has little kids..I am hoping she can be placed in an excellent home; until then she is pretty happy in my garage she has plenty of room to play and is air conditioned…Thanks a lot for your help…

These wonderful people rescued me and now I am waiting for my new family to find me. I am one of the sweetest girls you will ever meet!! I am very gentle and I absolutely LOVE children. I will just sit in their laps and purr and let them love and pet me. Wanna know a secret? I am a kissing kitty. I love to give you kisses to show you how much I appreciate your affection. I will curl up in your arms and love you as much as you love me. I’ve been waiting a long time for you, please come and get me soon. LOVE HANNAH.”

"Cocoa", 04/09/2007
I have another dog I have 'rescued'. I do need to find a home pretty quick since she is competing with my 'permanent' dog for attention, food, etc. and my Samantha is getting depressed and jealous.
Here are some photos, you pick the best. She is still pretty young, maybe 8 mos? Seems like she has gotten taller in just the last 2 weeks!
She is very slender and has a 'greyhound' look to her backbone, face shape and when she is running (fast!). She has German Shepard type hair on her neck and ears. She is several shades of chocolate brown, from dark chocolate on her face to a light cocoa on her haunches. We call her Coco, of course.
She is very smart, learned 'sit' in about 5 minutes. She is very sweet, good with cats (mine at least) and small children (my 2 grandchildren) responds immediately to the command "No" and LOVES to snuggle. She is nearly house trained, will cry to be let out most of the time unless she is really excited (last accident was when we had company that were loving her...)
Due to her reaction when you say "no" -she cowers and turns her head so she is looking at you nearly upside down- I think she has been abused. She wont come to you if you sound angry when you call her either.
So, if you can find a home for this sweet and pretty girl let me know!
Dawn Please help me find homes for THREE CATS! 03/02/2007
My mom is moving and needs to find homes for her three cats. My brother-in-law is highly allergic, and can't come into their house now, and mom refuses to make them outdoor cats only. 2 of the cats are my sister's, but obviously her husband can't be around cats, so my mom was "babysitting" them. They need homes ASAP! I would take them but Tim would divorce me. He says no more pets for us unless they are fish. :(
They are all neutered/spayed, and have no issues with children or other pets (my mom has 5 grandchildren - ages 4 and under, and 2 dogs) All are current on their shots/vet visits. They are all declawed.
Joey is a cream tabby cat - male, and is almost 12 years old. He is pretty quiet, no fuss, hangs out by himself.
Broley looks like cow. Seriously, he is white with black spots. He is a lover! I think he's around 8-10 years
Silvia is gray tabby - female, and is around 5-6 years old. She is a lover too, and loves to talk.
If you know of anyone looking for a cat or two or three, please let me know. It will be so sad to see them go, but we would feel so much better if they were going to someone we know. The pound is NOT an option for us. Of course, you can have them for free.

Beagle Boy, 02/23/2007
Here's the young man I found last week. He is as soft as a bunny, his "sweet spot" is behind is right ear. He snorts when he sniffs, very funny stuff. He definitely is young, because he does have puppy tendencies, i.e he is drawn like moth to flame to a particular pair of tennis shoes he found on my floor, and he appears to be scanning for anything on a table at eye level with an awnry look in his eye. (I've been trying some dog whisperer techniques:) He loves to be loved on and give kisses, but needs a little help with potty training, only had a couple of accidents. The first time I didn't get him outside fast enough the first thing in the morning, and the other after a rigorous tumble and play session with my two dogs. He gets along with my two pit mixes wonderfully, and is curious about my cat, but after a few sniffs and stares, he is bored and moves on to the next activity. He is a typical Beagle, loves snack time, and I taught him to sit very quickly with some "Snausages".
He has slept through the night the last few nights on my bedroom floor with no mishaps, and he is kenneled during the day with no problems or mishaps in the kennel. I am taking him to get neutered Friday morning with the help of Georgeanne Marx and her connections.
Fortunately, this guy has a face that could stop traffic, because that's exactly what he was doing when I found him.
There he was standing motionless in an intersection wondering what all the fuss was about...horns honking, folks yelling to get his attention. His response, "Huh?"
He's a young unaltered male beagle, possibly just under a year old, because his "jewels" don't appear to be completely dropped, and his teeth are in really good shape. He's very friendly, but not a lick of street smarts.
I discovered his inability to direct traffic in a questionable neighborhood not prone to have beagles as the dog of choice. He curled up in my back seat and did not want to get out of my car when I dropped him off at the vet's office. He looks in pretty good shape, and the vet conducted a basic exam. His stool appeared to have an excessive amount of bone fragments, possibly from some recent dumpster diving. He has no micro chip, and no tags. When will people learn?
I visited him at the vet's office today, and they said he was a "lover" and that he has done very well, and to date hasn't had any potty training issues. If you have any questions or are interested in providing this little man with some well deserved love and affection please e-mail me at alleybubb@gmail.com. I will be picking him up from the vet and probably have him for a couple of days, and will then hopefully find foster placement through the power of e-mail or even better, a home with a responsible pet owner. Please pass along. Thanks. Alane
